Interesting facts about the wishbone counter stool

Designed by Hans J. Wegner in the 1950s, the wishbone counter stool and all of its counterparts in this collection are iconic masterpieces. With its incredible visual appeal, unique design, and classic visuals, it’s a stool that’s admired to this day. Further, we’ll take a look at some interesting facts about it, so that you can get to know it better:

  1. Amazing back support

Hans Wegner always designed his furniture to be both practical and aesthetically pleasing. He imbued the same duality in his wishbone counter stool. The unique design of the stool’s back has been crafted to ensure ease of movement and recline. The rounded frame is at an adequate height to lean back comfortably. The V of the wishbone design element provides great back support. And the curved back railing makes it easy to move around without losing support. Even the base structure is perfectly heighted so that it makes a great footrest!

  1. Many unique finishes

While the natural papercord seat remains the same in all the wishbone counter stools, their finish always varies. This gives you more room to make a suitable choice that complements your interior design theme. This stool is usually made in beech wood (which retains its natural finish), walnut wood (which is typically lacquered over), and oak wood (which is further stained either with black finish, treated with soap or oil). At the end of the day, the choice is all yours!

  1. Gorgeous sculptural form

10

The design of the wishbone counter stool was replicated from its chair counterpart. Wegner designed them both to be as sculptural as possible. Therefore, this stool was a total novelty in the era of 1950s, where heavy-set furniture was the norm. The artful lines, charismatic presence, and slender body of this stool made a statement at a time where visuals like this were not at all common in furniture at all. Even to this day, the wishbone stool remains absolutely timeless and would complement any modern interior quite stunningly.

  1. Sturdy solid wood construction

11

One of the best qualities of the wishbone counter stool is that it is made entirely out of solid wood. This means that it’s of excellent heirloom quality. Its promised durability would probably last you a lifetime – especially with a good care routine. If you’ve brought this stool in a natural finish, then you can just sit back and enjoy the view as it ages like fine wine with just the most minimal maintenance. It’s the kind of promise that everyone looks for in furniture today, but very rarely finds for real.

  1. Classic midcentury style functionality

12

The wishbone counter stool is perhaps the most functionally viable bar stool that you’ll ever find. Aside from its excellent ergonomics and comfort, it has the added bonus of maintaining excellent sturdiness and heirloom quality. It’s definitely an inspired piece of midcentury modern assets that remains relevant to this day.

So, these are some interesting facts about the wishbone counter stool. We hope they give you even more reasons to furnish you homes with this classy piece of furniture!
