Toronto is known for its multiculturalism and strives to show off how incredible the people who live in the city are.  Each of these museums dips into the past of the town and country while giving us a clear view of what to expect in the future.  Although picking a favorite between these may be difficult, these are undoubtedly the top four museums in Toronto.

Royal Ontario Museum

The Royal Ontario Museum itself is a work of art.  With beautiful arches and gorgeous glass walls, this museum calls back to the Sydney Opera House‘s shape while also alluding to the Great Pyramids.  As the largest museum in Canada, it attracts over a million visitors a year, garnering more attention in a day than many get in a month or year.  

Aga Khan Museum

This Muslim heritage museum lets a modern and starkly white backdrop be the canvas for the beautiful art and historical artifacts it houses.  With over a thousand different pieces, there are details and items that you won’t notice your first, second, or third time visiting.  Not only is everything carefully curated to tell an honest and open story about Muslim people, but it also has life in it, with artists from recent years still displaying pieces.  This museum was made with love, and any visitor can see that.

Art Gallery of Ontario

If you want to spend a rainy day, or even a full weekend, taking in some of the most beautiful art that Toronto has to offer, the Art Gallery of Ontario is the place to go.  With a midrange ticket cost of $25, this gallery will open your eyes to how the inhabitants of the city view The Six.  Not only is the design of the building fun and interesting, the fact that it houses over 90,000 pieces of art and history is enough to blow anyone’s mind.  This museum is the best way to get to know the city, condensed down into a path you can stroll through comfortably.

Gardiner Museum

Walkability: the most walkable, very wheelchair accessible.

This sculpture and pottery museum offers visitors a chance to create art. At the same time, they visit, possibly inspiring many visitors to start digging for homes for sale in Toronto so they can see it more often!  Not only is there a gorgeous display of pottery new and old from Ontario, but there’s also history in every fingerprint in clay, stories told in every choice of the curve of flat surfaces.  Walking through these halls, you’re given a more dimensional approach to explaining where we’ve been and how we became the people we are today.  The Gardiner Museum is a must-visit location for anyone coming into the Toronto area.
